2021 Focus:
This project aims to develop various high-value-added materials derived from agricultural waste. Next, their applications for fruits preservation or environment-friendly polymer composite will be evaluated. These high-value-added materials derived from agricultural waste have special properties, such as high adsorption capacity, and they also can be used for carbon sequestration purposes. We target agricultural waste includes pineapple leaves, rice husk, corn leaves, and other materials. Furhtermore, we apply these materials with biodegradable polymer to get various environmental-friendly mulch composites. With the application of environmental-friendly mulch composites, organic matter and bioavailable nutrient elements in soil for plant growth would be increased. Also, the soil temperature and soil moisture can be maintained well with this multifunction mulch. Therefore, the project is important and needs to be accomplished, which is able to help crops adapt to the water shortage and climate change.

2022 Focus:
We aim to develop the high-value-added materials derived from agricultural waste and establish an optimized synthetic process. The materials' characteristics and adsorption performance will be studied. The impacts of environmental-friendly mulch composite on soil qualities will be evaluated. We also plan to collaborate with the company to produce the environmental-friendly mulch composite on a larger scale. The environmental-friendly mulch composite can also be used as a slow-release fertilizer carrier to improve the bioavailability of crops. In addition, the utilization of agricultural waste can solve multiple environmental pollutions, such as environmental sanitation, air pollution.
