Following the establishment of the partnership with the University of Belize, National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) has made further progress in its international expansion by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to a partnership agreement with Western Sydney University (WSU) on October 25, 2022, opening up more possibilities for future exchanges and cooperation between the two universities.

The signing ceremony originated from the referral of the Director of Science and Technology Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia, Dr. Lin He. Since June 2022, the two universities have been discussing possible collaboration, hoping to perpetuate agriculture-specialized cooperation regarding scientific and academic facets along with the possibility of signing cooperation agreements. During the ceremony, the MoU was signed by the President of NCHU, Dr. Fuh-Sheng Shieu, and President, Professor Barney Glover AO; as witnessed by Vice President of NCHU, Dr. Fuh-Jyh Jan, Vice President for International Affairs, Dr. Chia-Lin Chang, Director of Division of Academic Exchange OIA, Dr. Yun-Ju Chen, Vice Dean of College of Agriculture, Dr. Shaw-Yhi Hwang, Associate Head of Department of Post-Baccalaureate Medicine, Dr. Pin-Ju Chueh, Dean of College of Life Sciences, Dr. Chieh-Chen Huang(黃介辰), Dean of Academy of Circular Economy, Dr. Sheng-Yang Wang; WSU Pro Vice-Chancellor, Global Development, Professor Yi-Chen Lan, WSU Dean of School of Nursing and Midwifery, Professor Deborah Hatcher, WSU Discipline Lead of Agriculture and Food Sciences of School of Science, Distinguished Professor David Tissue.

Dr. Fuh-Sheng Shieu, President of NCHU, said that NCHU has had a long history in central Taiwan and would celebrate its 103rd anniversary at the end of the month. NCHU officially established the College of Medicine this year, set up a branch in Nantou, and established the first Academy of Circular Economy in Taiwan. In the future, it would create a vision of net-zero carbon emissions through industry-university cooperation. NCHU has Taiwan's earliest and largest veterinary medicine college. After establishing the College of Medicine this year, it became the only university besides National Taiwan University that can promote the "One Health" concept. A university that promotes "One Health" will not only bring about structural changes to the future development of NCHU but also complete the puzzle of Taiwan's medical capacity. It is hoped that this signing ceremony will deepen further academic exchanges and cooperation with WSU in Australia and open up more opportunities for collaboration.

Professor Barney Glover AO, WSU President, expressed great interest in the cooperation between Taiwan and Australia; through this meeting with the faculty member of NCHU, he understood more about the research outputs of different colleges at NCHU. He was also expecting more and more collaboration between the two institutions in agriculture, climate change, and soil science. He hopes the interaction between Taiwan and Australia will create more cooperation opportunities.

We appreciate our heartfelt gratitude to the Director of Science and Technology Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia, Dr. Lin He, Director of Education Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia, Dr. Bi-Ji Lai, and the Department of International and Cross-strait Education, Ministry of Education. Based on this cooperation agreement, the WSU and NCHU will strengthen interaction, deepen exchanges, and develop more possibilities for cooperation, thereby creating a friendly relationship between Taiwan and Australia.
