University of the Philippines System delegation visits National Chung Hsing University

In response to the New Southbound Policy, National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) has proactively explored potential educational and academic collaboration with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and South Asian countries. On January 9, 2023, NCHU received a delegation consisting of constituent universities from The University of the Philippines (UP) system in anticipation of more upcoming collaborative opportunities.

The UP delegation consisted Vice President for Planning and Finance, Dr. Lisa Grace S. Bersales, Vice President for Administration, Dr. Nestor G. Yunque, Vice President for Development, Dr. Elvira A. Zamora, Vice President for Public Affairs, Dr. Elena E. Pernia, UP Los Baños Chancellor, Dr. Jose V. Camacho, Jr., UP Open University Chancellor, Dr. Melinda DP. Bandalaria, UP Mindanao Chancellor, Dr.Lyre Anni E. Murao, UP Emeritus professor, Dr. Del Mar Ernesto Pernia; on the other hand, NCHU delegation comprised Vice President of NCHU, Dr.Fuh-Jyh Jan(詹富智), Vice President for International Affairs, Dr. Chia-Lin Chang, Vice President for Research and Development, Dr. Jenn-Ming Song, and Vice Dean of College of Agriculture, Dr. Shaw-Yhi Hwang, who arranged the visit to College of Agriculture and Natural Resources later on.

Opening remarks were given by the host, Vice President of NCHU, Dr. Fuh-Jyh Jan(詹富智), and followed by Vice President for International Affairs, Dr. Chia-Lin Chang, who delivered a holistic presentation on the prospect of school affairs and academic excellence. Dr. Chang said that NCHU, with a long history in central Taiwan, had extraordinary accomplishments in agricultural research; furthermore, in 2022, NCHU officially established the medical school and a branch campus in Nantou, aiming to strengthen the collaboration between academia and industry. Via the meeting, Dr. Chang expected more feasible exchanges in extensive fields not only restricted to agriculture with the UP system alongside dual-degree and outbound-inbound programs.

Dr. Jose V. Camacho, Jr, UP Los Baños Chancellor, stated that UP system had partnerships with prestigious universities around the globe; in addition, they were looking forward to multifaceted cooperation with NCHU.

“People-centered, Bilateral Exchange, Resources Sharing” is the goal of The New Southbound Talent Development Program that NCHU will strive to stick to so as to reinforce the partnership between Taiwan and the Philippines.
