| 英文摘要 | Climate change has intensified wildfires, significantly impacting natural environments, air quality, and outdoor recreation. This study employs a panel data model to assess both the direct and indirect effects of wildfires on recreational demand across 17 national parks in the western U.S., with air quality as a mediating factor. From 1992 to 2020, wildfires caused an average annual decline of 0.78% in visitation and 0.60% in visitor hour, with the west-south region experiencing the most substantial impacts. In Yosemite, for example, visitation dropped by up to 10.54% during extreme wildfire years. Although indirect impacts via air quality were less pronounced, visitor hour, which reflect the duration of stays, were particularly sensitive to poor air quality. These findings highlight the need for strategies addressing both direct and indirect wildfire impacts as climate change continues to increase wildfire risks. |
